Blogs I Read

Financial Samurai

Sam Dogen is not only the founder of this site, but he worked in finance at Goldman Sachs and Credit Suisse for over 10 years so he has ALOT of financial knowledge and experience.

During that time he built up enough passive income from his investments to quit his day job and become financially independent!

Sam started Financial Samurai in 2009 part-time on his journey to financial independence and decided to work on it full time since he negotiated a severance package and left corporate America in 2012.

Because of all of his great work, he is considered one of the pioneers of the FIRE movement!

I have read his blogs and habitually read his weekly newsletters for years and love the great work he does!

If you are just getting started on your personal finance journey or looking for more advanced lessons in personal finance, Sam is your guy! 😊

ESI Money

This is the blog that started me down the rabbit hole of personal finance and have not regretted it ever since!

The author is a former executive at several companies, who along the way, managed to build up a sizable portfolio to the point that he was able to retire at the age of 52 after 28 years in the workforce and live off the income his portfolio generates.

While his work currently focuses on his life in retirement, his weekly Millionaire Interviews and articles on how he achieved what he did and the steps you need to take are pure gold!

Making Sense Of Cents

Michelle Schroeder-Gardner is the founder of Making Sense of Cents whose blog has reached over 20 million people and featured in major publications such as Forbes, CNBC, Time, and a host of others.

She started the blog to document her journey to financial freedom and share her insights on personal finance, budgeting, and making money.

She offers great practical yet actionable advice for improving your financial situation.

I started reading her content and fell in love with it!

She uses her own experiences, both good and her opportunities to improve, to educate her readers and guide them on their financial journey.

Budgets Are Sexy

Money is the founder of Budgets Are Sexy which was founded back in 2008 making him one of the forefathers of the FIRE movement!

Money’s approach to personal finance and FIRE is a minimalist approach fueled by saving to achieve his financial freedom.

I love his writing style because it’s open, honest, and easy to read. You can tell he has lived the same pain points as his community AND he has found ways to achieve his dreams.

Money is both playful and self-deprecating at the same time which leads to some interesting articles that make his articles very entertaining! 😊

Plus, he has a ton of helpful tools and resources to use.

On top of all that, he gave me some invaluable coaching to help me realize my dream of hosting this blog
.. can’t thank him enough! 😊

The Financial Cookbook

Lisa’s blog, The Financial Cookbook, focuses on coaching financial and career empowerment as well as educate people on “all things we should have been taught in school.”

She shares her “financial cookbook” full of recipes (articles) for financial and career success plus provides a wealth of tools and resources to improve your knowledge.

She covers everything from how to prepare for an interview to the importance of a 40aK to how to calculate an amortization schedule for paying off a home.

What I love about her blog is that the advice is simple and easy to understand and implement. She also shares the mistakes she’s made and lessons learned so you don’t make the same mistakes she did along her financial journey.

Plus, she has done a TON of work to find good calculators and build other tools you can use to create good money habits.
